The weekend in review.

Over thinking it. I did a lot of that this weekend.

I killed the yeast.

It started with our un-Valentine's celebration. Elliott said he was going to cook us a special dinner on Saturday night. So I decided to tackle Saturday morning breakfast. When I saw Amelia's post about Swedish cardamom buns, it was on. Nevermind that I had never made anything with yeast before. It would be perfect, and he would be surprised and impressed!

The only outlet in my entire kitchen.

I got concerned when my dough stayed the same size every time the directions told me it would double in size. (By this time, Elliott was awake and fully aware of my plan. And how it was being derailed.)

Killed-yeast dough.

"Did you kill the yeast?" I didn't even know what this question meant. How does one kill yeast? Apparently by overheating it. Welp. That was that. Eggs probably would have been a safer bet.

He choked down a hockey puck cardamom bun anyway and reassured me that, "at least the flavor is good." At that point, I was willing to take whatever I could get.

I did, however, make up for murdering the yeast by hand-selecting for us the best gelato on the planet. (Talenti caramel cookie crunch, if you're interested.)

  1. This is so crazy. On a very rare day (a few weeks back) I decided to go crazy and make brioche buns, I bought Talenti gelato too. Caramel Cookie Crunch!!!!!!! I fear yeast and baking and in case my brioche sliders failed I had to back it up with rock star gelato. Great minds think alike! Yay!

    1. That is all the confirmation I needed that it is, in fact, the best gelato out there.

Also, I have a hard time believing that there was ever a chance your brioche buns would fail.
